Opua: the neighborhood
Opua: the neighborhood
I’ve been going through the motions, doing one thing and then another, but for some reason, perhaps because of my hands, I haven’t felt as though I really had things under control. Yet I look around the boat and at one depleted list, and a second I’ve started, and almost everything that needs to be done has been, with the exception of actually sailing the boat. Although two fingers of my right hand still have significant scabs and limited motion, I considering doing that today. I didn’t because of lack of wind and because I needed a writing day.
Today is Good Friday. Easter comes early this year. Today is also the Equinox, so there is hope for those of you in the north.
Easter weekend in New Zealand is like Labor Day weekend in the U.S., marking the end of summer. You would know it was a holiday simply by looking at the marina parking lot, which is full. Walking through the lower lot on the way to the chandlery, I counted fifteen vehicles with empty boat trailers behind them. The weather has been good for so long that people are beginning to complain about it. But perhaps not this weekend.
When I rowed back out to THE HAWKE OF TUONELA yesterday I found the above vessel anchored nearby. Not too close. A reasonable distance. While you can get more boat for your money than you can house, it is difficult to know what this one is worth. You are looking at at least a million dollars; perhaps two or three. And I have seen at least that many professional crew members cleaning and polishing. Me? I’m still training spiders.
