Evanston: doubly impressed
Evanston: doubly impressed
I read at sailinganachry this morning of the completion of a non-stop, unassisted solo circumnavigation in a 6.5 meter/21’ boat by Alessandro di Benedetto in 268 days during the course of which his boat was dismasted. Unlike a certain incompetent child, he jury-rigged a replacement and carried on.
I find myself curious about how he fit sufficient provisions and water in so small a boat. Photographs show several solar panels, so perhaps he had a water maker and they were sufficient to power it.
Whatever the details, it is a great voyage and I am very impressed.

Although this is Chicago in July, the adults continue to sit on the chick to keep it warm. Or perhaps protect it from sunburn.
Most impressive is how much bigger the chick is than the egg. During our only brief glimpse yesterday, his or her, head alone was larger than the egg, which was only the size of a U.S. 25 cent piece.
In the top photo, the nest is hidden beneath the flowers just to the left of the door frame.
