Evanston: day off
Evanston: day off
I have the day off. My first in almost three weeks. No World Cup until Friday. And for that matter the World Cup is almost over. Only seven more matches. Eight if you count the playoff for third place, which I don’t.
Yesterday’s matches showed how different an hour of scoreless play can be. The first hour of Paraguay/Japan was dull, as would be the second hour. But the first scoreless hour of Spain/Portugal was intensely entertaining.
The World Cup began with 32 teams, 13 from Europe; 5 from South America; and 14 outsiders.
Of the 8 teams to reach the quarter finals, 3 are from Europe; 4 from South America, and 1 outsider.
Two of the quarter finals--Netherlands/Brazil and Argentina/Germany are worthy of being finals, as will be the semi-final between the Argentina/Germany victor and Spain, assuming that Spain defeats Paraguay.
I don’t have a favorite or even an opinion as to who will win it all.
