Bali: bomb site and departure
Bali: bomb site and departure
Before Carol’s return flight last night, we ate dinner at one of the many sea food restaurants that set up each evening on the beach at Jimbaran, just south of the airport on the west side of the island.
We had a front row table a few feet from the surf, which was an ever changing line of white foam against the night.
The grilled prawns were good. We even splurged on a bottle of Australian wine that doubled the price of the meal. Strolling musicians moved from table to table. It was a pleasant and charming place.
But from time to time I looked at the other dinners, all of whom seemed to be enjoying themselves as much we were, and thought of those who were doing the same thing when two bombs went off there in 2002, killing more than two hundred and maiming the bodies and lives of hundreds of others.
No evidence of the bombings remains.

Except for those details that must wait until the actual departure, I think THE HAWKE OF TUONELA is ready to go to sea.
Hopefully the next post will be from Cocos Islands around August 6.
If not, it may be from Mauritius toward the end of August or Durban in mid-September.
I wish you all well.

The photograph is a shot just as it came from the camera of the moat around the living area of the Vila Sangkih.
