Evanston: an empty nest
Evanston: an empty nest
A robin began building a nest on a lower limb of the tree closest to our front windows.
This is a remarkable procedure that takes considerable expenditure of energy and engineering skill. How does she keep the first twigs and grass from blowing away before she returns with more?
Last Sunday she seemed to have finished. From mid-afternoon we saw her sitting on the nest, although we could not determine if there were eggs in it.
But something went wrong. Since Monday the robin has not been seen and the nest has been abandoned.
A severe thunderstorm with strong wind passed through Monday afternoon.
I hope that robins do not have a sense of futility.
