Evanston: smaller
Evanston: smaller
If you have been reading this journal almost since the beginning and have a good memory, you may think that you’ve already seen the above photograph. You haven’t, but one very similar.
I, myself, was surprised by how long ago it was: Evanston: the three sail boat revisited; June 18, 2007. The photo then was of the Facnor gennaker furling gear model 2500, which I have since used very successfully on THE HAWKE OF TUONELA. The photo above is of the Facnor 900, the smallest they make, as I’ve noted here before.
I’m not sure the ratio of size between the two units. At a guess the 900 is between half and two-thirds as big as the 2500; and at $604 costs less than half as much.
The tack of the sail is attached to the pin at the top of the larger fitting, which is snap shackled to the deck. The head of the sail goes to the pin of the other fitting, which swivels and is raised on a halyard.
The 900 arrived yesterday, but won’t see use for at least seven long months.
