Evanston: lies, damned lies, and Sarah Palin
Evanston: lies, damned lies, and Sarah Palin
Low gray sky. Bare tree limbs trembling. I think the last good weather has passed. Only winter is ahead.
My back has improved, but is far from right. I can move somewhat better once I am vertical, but getting there from a seated position is not easy, and occasionally not immediately possible. One of the Yeats poems that Carla Bruni sings on her NO PROMISES album may be apt: Those Dancing Days Are Gone.

Above is a chart showing the course of the fifth circumnavigation.
Here and on the chart page in the navigation bar is the updated chart of all five circumnavigations.

Keeping in mind the words attributed to Benjamin Disraeli via Mark Twain, “There are lies, damned lies, and statistics.” I have recently come across several depressing statistics.
One out of every two babies born in England today will live to be one hundred. This is depressing because what is being extended is old age.
Within five years almost half the adult population of the United States will be obese.
70% of Americans think that Sarah Palin is not qualified to be President. This is depressing on two counts. First that the question is even asked. Second that she needs only hang on to the fools who think she is qualified and convince one out of three of the others in order to win an election.
I am neither a Democrat nor a Republican; but any country that takes Sarah Palin seriously does not deserve to be taken seriously itself. And won’t be.
